Fun at the Beach Preschool Unit - Preview

My Fun at the Beach Unit will be starting next week.

I thought I would take today and introduce my new graphics.

Addition with Dominoes

This is my first attempt at something a little more advanced. 

I hope everyone finds it useful.

When I was in grade school we learned our addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts by repeatedly  practicing them over and over again until they were permanently embedded in our little brains. 

My oldest daughter has not learned them the same way.

They skipped around and taught three different ways to do the same thing without ever mastering one technique or emphasizing the importance of having these facts memorized.

I am sure there are theories as to why this is a good teaching method.

All I know is that my 12 year old has struggled with simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division over the years. That is until I made her memorize them.

My hopes are to start my younger kiddos early and permanently embed their little brains with simple math.

I have included Dominoes Addition sheets for numbers one through six in one file.

There is also a large blank domino set.

I plan on using this with objects like small erasers, buttons, cheerios, other sorts of candy to bribe them with and other small educational items. 

In fact we will probably start with the large blank version before I move on to the worksheets. 

If these are a big hit I will continue to make them for numbers 7 - 12. 

Then I'll move onto subtraction.

Multiplication and division are on my mind too...but probably not for a while.

Preschool Activities

I have recently become interested in preschool activities for my two preschool aged children. There are all sorts of free downloads all over the internet. I have had tons of fun finding things, printing them out and spending good quality time with my kiddos. I have even taken it a step further and created a few things myself.

My two kiddos are working on number and letter recognition. They are at the very beginning stages of this. They are also working on color recognition and coloring in general. I have created some very simple color by number or letter printables. I thought this would be a great place to share them.
